No. More. Glass.

I finally sold these:
I picked these up probably as far back as August at an estate sale thinking, "oh this will be so easy to sell!"  And there they sat.  I tried lower prices, higher prices, and then I eventually said "I have 9 of these.  Buy one as a replacement or whatever."  After I listed them as replacements, someone messaged me wondering how much for all of them?  I said $45.00 and $10.00 shipping and she bought them.  Well, she was in Texas, so shipping was $18.00 and the amount of packing materials I had to buy (I ran out of peantus and had to resort to getting more at Target for $6.00!!) was about $10 total, so I made about $20.00 on these and it took an hour of cussing and shaking my fist at the packing Gods to get them in the stupid box.

Not worth it.

Do you know what?  I'm done with glass stuff.  I just finshed packing my frames (the buyer actually paid, horray!) and those were a pain, too.  After the stuff I have up sells, I am going to try very hard to not buy large glass things again.  Fenton figurines?  Fine.  Mugs?  Ok.  NINE BLOODY FIRE KING BOWLS? Never again.

Unless the profit margin is gigantic, it's just not worth it.  Maybe it's just me, but other than the frames, I haven't ever sold one large glass piece that's made the stress of packing it and hoping it gets there OK worth it.

Shirts and books are much easier.

Rant over.

  1. My husband helps me pack glass items. He's very good figuring out what box to use. I usually wrap them first with paper then bubble wrap. I sell a lot of glass items. Can you look for boxes and bubble wrap from stores/groceries for free? Many just give them away. I sell a lot of glasses and they are my bread and butter because they give me the most profit. Sometimes it's annoying to pack them but I think about the $$ lol-Jacki

  2. Happy to hear you got your payment for the frame sale.
I hate packing glassware, so I tend to stay far away from it too.

  3. I had those bowls too. I gave them to my sister for Christmas. I have decided to stop trying to resell Pyrex. Its just not worth the small amount of money I get for it. I did sell two huge lamps awhile back for $100 a piece Seperate buyers. The first lamp broke and the second got there fine. I have the oppurtunity to buy 3 more of these lamps for $50 total but I have not yet so far because of the shipping issues.

  4. Becky, I saw the broken lamp on your blog. That is heartbreaking! My worst one was a lady who bought a pink candy dish (a really pretty dish) and messaged me saying how excited she was to buy it. Well, it arrived smashed to bits. I really hated it for her and for me, too, since that means a refund.

  5. I so understand how you both feel.
The very first piece of glassware I sold
was a vintage Anchor Hocking mixing bowl, the
one with the red utensils on it and was my great aunts.
Sellers remorse set in soon as I listed it, and low and behold it arrived broken. My heart was broke too.
From that day on, I vowed to never sell glassware and especially anything my heart is attached to.

  7. No glass for me either. Mini size Pyrex maybe, but nothing super fragile. That stuff is better if you have a real store or a co-op booth or something like that.
